Step 1: Name the Pattern

In a moment of tension, pause and identify the role you may be slipping into. Are you blaming, shutting down, or over-helping? Naming it out loud (“I think I’m in Rescuer mode”) begins to shift the dynamic.

Step 2: Breathe and Pause

Take a moment to slow down. Even one deep breath can interrupt reactivity and create the space for a new choice.

Step 3: Choose Responsibility Over Reactivity

Ask: “How can I respond with awareness?” Move from Persecutor to Assertive (speak your truth with care), Victim to Vulnerable (share what you’re truly feeling) or Rescuer to Caring (support without fixing).
